With numerous studies and expert advice touting the health benefits of fish and seafood consumption, the National Fisheries Institute (NFI), the trade association for the fish and seafood industry, has created a helpful information card that pinpoints different areas on the human body that may benefit from a diet rich in fish and shellfish.
The card shows the benefits omega-3 fatty acids may have on areas of the body including the brain, eyes, heart, lungs and joints, among others. By following the U.S. government’s Dietary Guidelines recommendation to eat fish at least twice a week, Americans can gain a variety of health benefits.
Numerous studies show that the proteins, vitamins, minerals and omega-3 fatty acids found in a variety of fish and seafood can reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke and potentially increase our quality of life by staving off the effects of Alzheimer’s disease and treating mood disorders such as depression.
